INDIANAPOLIS -- Butler sophomore forward Austin Oldham (Greenwood, Ind.) has been named Horizon League Men’s Soccer Player of the Week, for the week beginning Sept. 5. The accolade is the first of Oldham’s career.
Oldham collected seven points on the week, as Butler won the Dayton Marriott Classic with a 2-0 record. The Bulldogs collected wins over Western Illinois and Houston Baptist, with Oldham playing a role in four of Butler’s five goals.
In the tournament opener against Western Illinois, Oldham knotted the match at 2-2 with his first goal of the weekend; less than three minutes later, Oldham assisted on Adam Glanzer’s game-winning tally in the 82nd minute..
On Sunday, the sophomore forward scored both goals in Butler’s 2-1 victory over Houston Baptist. Oldham collected Offensive MVP honors of the four-team tournament, while teammate Brandon Fricke earned Defensive MVP accolades.
In the season’s first five matches, Oldham paces the Horizon League with five goals and 11 points for the 3-1-1 Bulldogs.
Butler will play one match this week, meeting nationally-ranked Louisville on Saturday, Sept. 17. The match between the Bulldogs and No. 7 Cardinals begins at 7 p.m. ET from Cardinal Park Soccer Stadium.

- Justin Mancine, Cleveland State (Jr., D) - Oversaw defense that shutout San Jose State on Friday night, allowing just four shots on goal.
- Otieno Victor, Detroit (Sr., F) - Victor netted the game-winning goal in Detroit’s 2-1 triumph over Davidson.
- Tony Walls, Green Bay (Sr., M) - Green Bay’s offensive leader, Walls converted a penalty kick to knot the Phoenix’s match with Cal State Fullerton at 1-1 on Friday and turned in an assist on the game-winning goal in a 2-1 victory over UNLV. Through the year’s first four matches, Walls leads the team with two goals and two assists.
- Erick Nock, Loyola (Jr., F) - The junior led the Ramblers offense with four shots, three on goal, in Loyola’s lone match of the week.
- Chadd Sult, Valparaiso (Sr., D) - Converted on only shot attempt of weekend, scoring with 17 seconds left for deciding goal in win over Northwestern. Sult collected All-Tournament Team recognition at the NIU Adidas Invitational.
- Justin Laird, Wright State (Fr., M) - Laird supplied the offense for Wright State as the Raiders went 1-0-1. In a 1-1 tie with Northeastern, Laird potted the team’s lone goal; the freshman had a goal and an assist as the Raiders knocked off Marquette, 2-1.
