INDIANAPOLIS -- Butler’s Mara Olson (Minneapolis, Minn.) and Detroit’s Edwin Gay (Grosse Pointe, MI) have been named Horizon League Runners of the Week, for the week beginning Aug. 29.  The accolade is the first of their careers.

Olson ran in her first collegiate meet over the weekend at the Illini Challenge. She completed the 4K race in 14:45 to lead her team to first place out of six teams. The Bulldogs swept the top four individual spots in 94-degree heat and had a team score of 16 points.

Gay was the first collegiate runner to cross the finish line in a 70-man field to take second place overall. He ran the 6K course at the Golden Grizzly Open in 19:10, just two seconds behind first place. It was the first time the junior had run the meet and his time was a 6K personal record.

The Titans will be back in action this weekend when they host the 25th Annual Running Fit - Detroit Titan Invitational at Cass-Benton Park on Sept. 10 at 11:15 a.m. Butler has an off weekend and will be back in action on Sept. 16 at the Indiana Intercollegiates in Bloomington, Ind.

Top Performers for the Week:

Callum Hawkins, Butler (So.) - Hawkins ran the 6K course at the Illini Challenge in 18:51. The sophomore placed second in a field of 64 runners to help lead the Bulldogs to a second place team finish.

Kirstin Mooney, Detroit (Sr.) - The senior had a fourth place individual finish at the Golden Grizzly Open. She finished the race in 15:04, which was a new 4K personal record for Mooney.

Josh Uvodich, UIC (So.) - The UIC sophomore finished sixth place overall in his UIC debut with a time of 20:58. Uvodich helped lead his team to a second place finish out of seven teams.

Jaime Johnson, UIC (Jr.) - In the UIC Home Opener, Johnson ran two miles in 11:42.10. The junior placed fifth overall in a field of 49 runners.

Wally Bradford, Valparaiso (Jr.) - Bradford led all Valpo runners and had an individual finish of 13th place out of the 53-man field. He ran the 5K Crusader Open in 16:28.5 and was just twelve seconds out of the top-10.

Jessica Richardson, Valparaiso (Fr.) - The freshman led Valpo in her first career race with a 14th-place finish. She ran the 5K course in 19:08.8 and was just over five seconds outside of the top-10.

Jason Bruns, Wright State (Jr.) - Bruns finished the Flyer 5K course with a time of 15:58 to place eighth overall out of 48 runners.

Joanie Ma, Wright State (Jr.) - The junior had a 19th-place individual finish with a time of 19:53 in the 5K course at the Flyer 5K Challenge.
