INDIANAPOLIS- Butler University senior Scott Overall has been named the 2006 Horizon League Men's Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year, while University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee senior Tenia Fisher claimed the honor for the third consecutive season on the women's side, the League office announced Tuesday (March 26).

Fisher set both a school and League record at the 2006 Horizon League Indoor Track & Field Championships, crossing the line in 55.69 seconds to win the 400-meter dash.  She also claimed wins in the 800m and the 4 x 400m relay at this year's meet.  During the course of the season, Fisher set school records in both the 600m and 800m races, running 1:33.56 in the 600m at the Edmunds Cup on January 28 and crushing her previous school record of 2:10.05 in the 800m with a time of 2:07.20 at the Notre Dame Alex Wilson Invitational earlier this month.

Fisher, who was also named Outstanding Performer for Running Events at the 2006 championships, has now accumulated six track and field awards. Her other accolades include 2004 Indoor Track and Field Outstanding Performer for Running Events, three indoor Athlete of the Year awards and the 2003 Horizon League Outdoor Newcomer of the Year honor.

Overall set a meet record with a time of 2:24.75 in the 1000-meter run at this year's championships, while also being a part of the winning distance medley relay team. He was the only Horizon League representative at the 2006 NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas, where he finished 12th in the 3000m race with a time of 8:16.56.  Overall had qualified for the event with a 7:56.58 run at the Meyo Invitational, a school-record-breaking performance that also earned him Athlete of the Week honors for Feb. 7. He also qualified for the NCAA meet in the mile, setting a school record with a 4:00.53 performance at the Notre Dame Invitational on Jan. 20.

Butler has now claimed the last five Athlete of the Year awards combined for cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field. In addition to this year's honor, Overall claimed the 2005 Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Year award, while teammates Andy Rayner (2005 Cross Country) and Andrew Sherman (2005 Indoor) and former Bulldog Oly Laws (2004 Cross Country) were also named Athletes of the Year.

The Horizon League Athlete of the Year award is voted on by coaches from the seven participating institutions. Other women's nominees included Andrea Karl of the University of Detroit Mercy, Marcia Faustin of Loyola University Chicago, Idara Essien of the University of Illinois at Chicago and Bethany Anderson of Youngstown State University.  Other men's nominees included Detroit's Thomas Grant, Loyola's Jimel Denham, UIC's Terell Williams, UW-Milwaukee's Gabe Waggoner and Youngstown's Jarrod Davis.
