INDIANAPOLIS - Butler University senior forward Frank Patano has been named Horizon League Men's Soccer Player of the Week for the period of Sept. 1-7. It marks the second time in Patano's career that he has claimed the honor.

Patano, a Franklin Park, Ill., native, scored three goals in Butler's three matches last week, helping the Bulldogs to a 2-1-0 record. He started the week with a pair of tallies in BU's 2-0 Labor Day win over Northeastern, propelling Butler to a team title at the Courtyard By Marriott East Classic Championship hosted by Louisville. For his efforts, he was named to the all-tournament team.

On Thursday, Patano found the back of the net in the 67th minute of Butler's 1-0 victory over IPFW. The goal was his fourth of the season and 28th of his career. Butler concluded the week by dropping a 3-2 match at Evansville Sunday.

For the week, Patano totaled three goals, six points, 10 shots and five shots on goal.

Patano currently leads the Horizon League in goals (4) and game-winning goals (3), and he is tied for the league lead in points (8). He also currently stands second in the conference with 13 shots.

Patano was previously named league player of the week on Sept. 4, 2007. He scored two goals that week to lead Butler to a team title at the Courtyard By Marriott Flyer Classic in Dayton, Ohio.

Butler (3-1-0) will play one match this week, at DePaul Sunday at 2 p.m.
