INDIANAPOLIS - Butler University sophomore forward Kyle Pateros has been named Horizon League Men's Soccer Player of the Week for the period of Oct. 6-12. It marks the first time in his career Pateros has captured the award.
Pateros, a native of Janesville, Wis., scored the game-winning goal in Butler's 1-0 win over No. 4 University of Illinois at Chicago Saturday afternoon. His tally came in the 65th minute and sent UIC to its first loss of the season, while putting Butler alone atop the Horizon League standings, a half-game ahead of Loyola University Chicago.
The goal, a strike from 18 yards out and to the right of the UIC goalkeeper, was Pateros' sixth of the season. Butler's Eduardo Garcia was credited with an assist on the play.
The Bulldogs went 1-1 last week, with a 2-0 loss to Indiana at a neutral site last Tuesday night. Despite the loss, Butler controlled the majority of the play and outshot the Hoosiers, 12-10.
Pateros and Butler (8-2-2, 3-0-1 HL) will play twice this week, hosting IUPUI Tuesday night at 4 p.m. ET before traveling to Wright State University Saturday for a 7 p.m. contest.
