Sacramento, Calif. - Senior Scott Overall passed his first test at the 2006 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championship, and he'll represent Butler University in the finals of the men's 5,000 meter run at the national meet. The standout Butler distance runner will compete for a national title in the 5,000 meter event on Friday, June 9.

Overall placed seventh in the second heat of the men's 5,000 meter preliminaries on Wednesday, June 7. The top six finishers from each of the two heats, plus the next four fastest times advanced to Friday's finals. Overall's time of 14:01.01 was the seventh fastest posted in the competition. Shadrack Songok of Texas A & M-Corpus Christi posted the fastest time with a 13:55.32 finish.

The men's 5,000 meter finals are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. (PDT, 10:30 p.m. in Indianapolis) on Friday and will be televised live by CSTV.
