INDIANAPOLIS - Butler sophomore guard Shelvin Mack has been named the Horizon League Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 3.

A native of Lexington, Ky., Mack averaged 19.5 points and 2.5 assists per game in the Bulldogs' victories over Green Bay (72-49) and Milwaukee (80-67). He scored a game-high 14 points in a first-place showdown against Green Bay Thursday and then had a career-high 25 versus Milwaukee Saturday.

For the week, Mack shot 54 percent (14-of-26) from the field and 8-for-11 from the free-throw line. He has scored in double figures in 13 straight games.

Mack ranks seventh in the League in both scoring and assists, averaging 14.9 points and 3.2 assists per game. In League games only, he stands second with 16.7 points per contest.

Butler (10-4, 3-0 Horizon League) is in first place and the only undefeated team in League action. The Bulldogs will play their first conference road game of the season this Friday at Wright State (10-5, 3-1), which was picked second in the preseason poll and currently is tied for third.

Sirlester Martin, Youngstown State (Sr., F) - Averaged 13.5 points and eight rebounds as the Penguins went 0-2 last week
Bryquis Perine, Green Bay (Jr., G) - Averaged 11.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and two assists in a 1-1 week for the Phoenix, with 16 points in a win at Valparaiso
Brandon Wood, Valparaiso (So., G) - Averaged 20 points and 6.5 rebounds, with 22 points against Milwaukee and 18 versus Green Bay in a 1-1 week for the Crusaders
