INDIANAPOLIS - University of Detroit Mercy junior David Byrne and Youngstown State University freshman Samantha Formeck were named Horizon League Golf Athletes of the Week. Byrne's and Formeck's honors come as the League teams prepare for the 2009 Horizon League Golf Championships in Lexington, Ky.

Byrne claimed medalist honors at the Detroit Titans Invitational, firing a 3-under 69 on the final day to win the tournament by six strokes. The Essex, Ontario, native finished play with a 214 (73-72-69). It was Byrne's fourth career top ten finish and third tournament win.

Formeck, a native of Northern Cambria, Pa., placed 5th of 37 participants at the Bowling Green Invitational April 14-15. She shot a 159 (79-80), marking the sixth time this season she has been the Penguins' top performer.

With the regular season complete, seven Horizon League men's teams and six women's teams head to Kearney Hill Golf Links in Lexington, Ky., for tournament play.

Four-time defending champion Butler University will aim to claim the League trophy as the tournament tees of Saturday, April 25 at 8 a.m. The 54-hole tourney concludes with a final round on Sunday, April 26.

2008 tournament champion Cleveland State University and the men's teams tee off Monday, April 27 at 8 a.m. The 54-hole event ends Tuesday, April 28.
