Milwaukee and Green Bay held serve on their home courts Thursday night, dealing UIC and Loyola defeats in Horizon League action.
Continuing its trend of hot shooting, Milwaukee (9-9, 4-3 Horizon) evened its overall record with an 87-75 victory over UIC (5-13, 0-6 Horizon) at U.S. Cellular Arena. The Panthers entered the night having hit 36 three-pointers over their last three games and continued the trend with a 12-for-19 effort from beyond the arc on Thursday.
Tony Meier had his way inside and out, connecting on 4-of-6 triples and shooting 7-for-12 overall in a 22-point performance. Meier's effort helped Milwaukee hit 54 percent of their attempts from the floor and over 63 percent from the three-point range. Tone Boyle posted 17 points, while Kaylon Williams added 14 points - including a 32-foot heave at the halftime horn - and seven assists.
Anthony Hill was the beneficiary of Milwaukee's sharp-shooting, posting 18 points without taking a three-point attempt; the big man was 5-of-7 from the floor and hit 8-of-10 free throws.
UIC hit nearly half of its attempts, but could not keep up with Milwaukee's torrid outside shooting. Robo Kreps led the way with 19 points, while Dipanjot Singh had a career-best 17 in his first career start. Paul Carter saw his double-double streak end at three games, but tallied 16 points.
Milwaukee will host Loyola (10-8, 1-6 Horizon) on Saturday in the Horizon League Game of the Week. The Ramblers will head down I-43 after suffering a 71-68 loss at Green Bay on Thursday.
Rahmon Fletcher keyed the win for the Phoenix, helping break open a three-point game at the half with back-to-back buckets to start the second half. The baskets and Green Bay (9-9, 3-3 Horizon) never relinquished the lead. Bryquis Perine added 16, while Alec Brown battled foul trouble to finish with 11 points and three blocks.
Green Bay had to hold off a fierce Loyola charge at the end; Geoff McCammon came off the bench to hit a couple key triples, but Green Bay hit enough free throws down the stretch to even its record. Ben Averkamp led the Ramblers with a career-high 19 points, while Terrance Hill struggled from the field but managed to finish with 11 points.
