INDIANAPOLIS -- UIC senior Anthony Hollingsworth (Riverdale, Ill.) and Loyola senior Gina Valgoi (Detroit, Mich.) have been named the final Horizon League Runners of the Week for the 2013 season.
It is the first honor of the outdoor season for Hollingsworth and the second for Valgoi.
Hollingsworth picked up three first place finishes over the weekend to lead the Flames to an overall team win at the Benedictine Twilight. The senior outraced a field of 42 in the 100m dash (10.77) and a field of 52 in the 200m dash (21.88), collecting the Horizon League fifth-best time of the season in the latter. He also anchored the 4x100m relay (41.48), helping UIC beat out a 10-team field.
Valgoi finished in fifth place out of 12 runners in the 1500m run (4:19.00) at the highly competitive Drake Relays, breaking her own school record by over five seconds and setting the fastest time in the Horizon League this season. She now ranks among the top-20 in the NCAA West Region in three events (1500m, 5000m, 10000m). Valgoi also helped the 4x1600m relay team (19:31.85) finish third in a field of 11.
Hollingsworth and Valgoi will join their teams in Ypsilanti, Mich., this weekend for the Horizon League Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
