INDIANAPOLIS -- University of Detroit Mercy sophomore golfer Jeff Clarridge and Loyola University Chicago junior volleyball player Lauren Ditscheit have been named U.S. Army Horizon League Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sept. 14, League commissioner Jonathan B. LeCrone announced Friday (Sept. 19).

Clarridge (Barrie, Ontario/Bear Creek) matched his career low with a round of 69 in rainy and windy conditions to place third at the Spartan Classic on Sunday. The Titans finished second to host Michigan State University in the six-team event that was shortend to one round due to the inclement weather.

As a business administration major, Clarridge carries a 3.7 grade-point average at Detroit.

Ditscheit (Wauwatosa, Wis./West) was named to the all-tournament team at the Northern Illinois Invitational Sept. 12-13 as Loyola went 2-2, including wins over Fairfield University and Bradley University. She recorded a double-double with 31 assists and 12 digs in a loss to Towson University and tallied 26 assists, eight digs and four aces in a five-set victory over Fairfield.

In the classroom, Ditscheit maintains a 3.75 grade-point average as an advertising/public relations major.

The Horizon League instituted the U.S. Army Scholar-Athlete of the Week awards as a way to recognize outstanding academic and athletic achievement by its student-athletes. To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better (on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution, passed 24 semester or 36 quarter hours and perform well during the week's competition. Winners are selected by a group of League faculty athletic representatives, from nominations provided by sports information directors.
