Cleveland State and Green Bay garner weekly swimming and diving laurels

INDIANAPOLIS – Cleveland State sophomore Mark deSwardt has been named the Horizon League Men’s Swimmer of the Week, while Green Bay sophomore Daniel Pogue has claimed Diver of the Week laurels for the period of Feb. 1-Feb. 7.

deSwardt totaled three individual wins and led the Vikings in a defeat over UIC by a final score of 129-113.5. The 2009 Horizon League Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Year set a new school record in the 200-yard butterfly, clocking a 1:49.12.  He narrowly missed the NCAA ‘B’ standard of 1:48.09.  The South African also brought home gold in the 500 and 1,000 freestyle races in times of 4:31.87 and 9:24.18, respectively.  The victory over UIC tied a school record for most dual wins in a season with 14.  deSwardt is honored with his fourth accolade of the season and the ninth of his career.

Pogue recorded the top two scores off the one- and three-meter boards this past weekend in a dual meet at Milwaukee.  His one-meter tally of 319.73 nearly missed his own school record of 320.25.  From three meters, Pogue posted a mark of 321.30 as both scores exceeded the NCAA standard to participate in the Zone Diving competition next month.  The Chisholm, Minn., native, takes home his fourth weekly honor of the season and the fifth of his career.
