Cleveland State and Valparaiso advance to semifinal round of the Horizon League Volleyball Championship

The seeds held true in the opening rounds of the Horizon League Volleyball Championship Tournament on Friday with the third and fourth seeded teams advancing to Saturday.  Semifinals will be played on Saturday at the Klotsche Center in Milwaukee, Wis.

In the first quarterfinal on Friday, No. 3 Cleveland State defeated No. 6 UIC.  The Vikings hit .299 and had 11 aces in a 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 25-17)sweep of the Flames.  Cleveland State improved to 22-6 with the win, while UIC finished the season at 13-8.

Cleveland State will advance to the semifinals and play second-seeded Butler in the second match on Saturday at 4:30 pm ET.

Also on Friday, No. 4 Valparaiso defeated No. 5 Green Bay in three sets (25-17, 25-13, 25-19).  The Crusaders recorded a .250 hitting percentage, bringing their record to 25-7 with the win, while Green Bay concludes its season with a 12-19 mark.

Valparaiso will face top-seeded Milwaukee in the first semifinal match on Saturday at 2pm ET.

The semifinal winners will meet on Sunday at 2pm ET for the conference title.  All matches can be seen live on the Horizon League Network.
