Cleveland, Ohio - Both Cleveland State tennis programs received national attention for their academic success on Monday when the International Tennis Association announced its All-Academic Teams and Scholar-Athletes. The women's team received All-Academic Team honors, while three players from both squads garnered individual attention.

Junior Morgan Ungerott and sophomores Christine Vogelgesang and Lindsay Sellers were each named women's Division I Scholar Athletes. Earlier this spring, Ungerott and Vogelgesang were each named to the Horizon League All-Academic Team.

On the men's side, junior Dan Singer and freshmen Rob West and Stephen Wipprecht were named ITA Scholar-Athletes, which goes to any student-athlete carrying a 3.50 GPA and has been enrolled at his present school for at least two semesters.

"I am very proud of the athletes who received this award," head coach Brian Etzkin said. "They work very hard on the court and continue their effort in the classroom. This also puts our women's team in the top 25 percent in the nation academically. "This is a true testament to the team's work ethic and character."

This marks the second straight year the women's team, which placed fifth at the Horizon League Championship last spring, has received team honors from the ITA. The ITA honored 92 women's Division I teams nationwide that had a combined 3.20 grade point average. Five of the Vikings' seven players posted at least a 3.0 grade point average last year.

Detroit, Mich. - The Detroit women's tennis team, along with a trio of individual Titans, was honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) for their outstanding work in the classroom this past school year.

The Titans as a whole earned the ITA All-Academic Team Award as a program that had a cumulative grade point average above a 3.20. Detroit's GPA for 2005-06 was a 3.41. The Titans are one of just 92 teams nationally to receive this award and one of two Horizon League squads.

Individually, three Titans, Stephanie Hill and Amy Inman along with Annie Moore picked up the Scholar-Athlete Award from the ITA. In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman thorough senior year).

Hill (Calgary, Alberta/William Aberhart HS) who will be a junior in the fall, is an international business major and a member of the UDM Student-Athlete Advisory Committee who posts a 3.79 GPA and represented UDM at the 2006 Ethics Bowl in Orlando, FL. Inman (Grand Rapids, MI/Catholic Central HS), who will be a junior in the fall as well, was a 2005-06 team captain and has a 3.76 GPA in bio-chemistry with an eye towards dental school following graduation. In June, Inman was selected Academic All-League. A rising sophomore, Moore (St. Clair, MI/St. Clair HS) was named the 2006 Horizon League Newcomer and Player of the Year, the first player to ever earn both awards in the same season. Moore also set the Titan freshman record for wins in a season with her 26 triumphs. A communications major, Moore has a 3.70 GPA.

"I think this shows the dedication our student-athletes have when it comes to getting their jobs done in the classroom," commented head coach Daron Montgomery. "For the ITA to recognize our program is a true testament to the amount of time these players put into both tennis and academics."

The 2005-06 academic year was the third consecutive one that the women's tennis team posted the highest GPA of all 16 Titan varsity teams.
