Cleveland State continued to build on its strong start to the season, while Detroit stumbled for the second straight night.

Cleveland State 57, Kent State 53
Cleveland State led wire-to-wire, claiming northern Ohio supremacy over Kent State, 57-53, in front of 6,327 at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center.

For the fourth straight game, the Vikings forced 20-plus turnovers, harrassing Kent State into 22 miscues. The defensive pressure allowed Cleveland State (4-0) to overcome 22 fouls and 20 turnovers in the game. D'Aundray Brown was one of the Vikings to struggle with fouls, but the senior came up with one of the game's key plays with four minutes to play.

Kent State had closed an 11-point Viking lead to four at 44-40, but Brown drained a three from the right wing while being fouled. Though Brown missed the chance at a four-point play, the Flashes would not come within four points again until 26 seconds remained in the game.

Brown finished with 11 points and was joined in double figures by Jeremy Montgomery, who led the Vikings with 13. 11 of Montgomery's total came in the first half. Back-to-back threes from the senior pushed Cleveland State out to a 12-2 advantage and set the tone for the game.

Bowling Green 67, Detroit 61
The Stroh Center continued to be a house of horrors for a short-handed Detroit squad, as the Titans fell to host Bowling Green, 67-61, in the subregional of the Progressive CBE Classic.

Detroit (2-3) struggled to knock down shots in the first 20 minutes, hitting just seven field goals, but worked its way into a tie at 52-52 with 5:22 on an Evan Bruinsma layup. However, Bowling Green would score the next five points and never relinquish the lead the rest of the way.

Bruinsma played 30 minutes off the bench, leading the Titans with 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting. Jason Calliste added 16 and Ray McCallum 11, but it was not enough for Detroit, who lost its second straight game in the subregional.
