Cleveland State Duo Sweeps Weekly Swimming Accolades

INDIANAPOLIS - Cleveland State University senior Jakub Dobies has been named the Horizon League Men’s Swimmer of the Week while Viking freshman Joanna Olsson claims Women’s Swimmer of the Week honors for the period of Nov. 23-29.

Dobies takes home his third career Swimmer of the Week laurel and his second of the 2009-10 season.  The Plock, Poland, native, posted a first-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke in a road meet against Big Ten-foe Ohio State.  His winning-time of 55.74 narrowly missed the NCAA ‘B’ qualifying standard of 55.51.    

Olsson claims her second consecutive weekly League honor with a trio of outstanding performances last week at Ohio State.  The newcomer notched a first-place finish in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:07.59.  She also recorded two second-place finishes in the 500 (5:03.54) and 1,000 freestyle (10:23.82).  

The duo accounted for CSU’s only two individual victories against the Buckeyes as the Vikings earn their eighth overall Swimmer of the Week accolade (four men and four women) this season.
