INDIANAPOLIS— Horizon League Men’s Golf Champion Cleveland State will head to Sugar Grove, Ill., to participate in the 2014 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Regionals May 15-17. For the first time in history, the NCAA Division I Golf Committee announced the teams and individuals for this year’s championship on Golf Channel.

The Vikings are one of 14 teams assigned to the Sugar Grove Regional, being hosted Northern Illinois University at Rich Harvest Farms. Other regional sites take place in Auburn, Ala., Columbia, Mo., Raleigh, N.C., Eugene, Ore, and San Antonio, Texas.

At the 2014 Horizon League Golf Championships, Cleveland State registered a three-shot victory over Detroit. Three-time Horizon League Player of the Year Andrew Bailey paced the Vikings with a three-day total 218 (72-70-76) to nab medalist honors.

The victory marked the squad’s fifth league title in the past nine years. The last time Cleveland State competed in regional’s came in 2011 when the Vikings competed in the San Diego Regional. The Horizon League champion took 13th place and the lone player to compete on the current roster was Bailey, who as a freshman tied for 62nd place (79-75-77-231).

Golf Channel will provide highlights from regional play leading up to live coverage of the 2014 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship to be held May 23-28 at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan.
