Cleveland State SAAC Members Lend Hand to Special Olympics

CLEVELAND - Members of Cleveland State's Student-Athlete Advisory Council lent a helping hand at the Greater Cleveland Area Special Olympics swimming competition held on Nov. 2 at the Strongsville Recreation Center.

The Special Olympians were participating in a local qualifying meet that the SAAC members helped to run. They also contributed their voices in support of the competing athletes.

"We wanted to give something back by getting involved in the community," SAAC president Marco Markgraaff said. "The spirit of the Olympians was truly amazing. As a swimmer this motivates me to work that much harder. It also makes you realize how blessed you are."

SAAC was formed not only to give Cleveland State student-athletes a voice, but also to create a tie between CSU and the community. Each of the Vikings' 17 varsity sports are represented on the council.
