Cleveland State will not renew contract of men's soccer coach

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The contract of Cleveland State men's soccer coach Pete Curtis will not be renewed past the completion of the 2005 season, CSU Director of Athletics Lee Reed announced on Wednesday.

A search for a successor will begin immediately.

"I would like to thank Pete Curtis for the contributions that he has made to CSU soccer over the last six years," Reed said. "Unfortunately, I feel that it is in the best interest of the Viking soccer program that we make a change and go in a different direction in regards to our head coaching position."

Curtis guided the Viking men's soccer team to a 27-81-5 record since taking over as head coach in 2000, was named the Horizon League Co-Coach of the Year in 2002 after leading CSU to a 10-11 record and the championship match of the Horizon League Championship.

Cleveland State has struggled since that season, going 0-18-1 in league play over its last 19 matches, losing in the opening round of the league tournament in each of the last three years. The Vikings lost 1-0 at Detroit on Saturday (Nov. 5) in the first round of the league tournament to end the season with an 0-17-1 record.
