Cleveland State Women's Tennis Earns Academic Honors From ITA

SKILLMAN, N.J. – The Cleveland State women's tennis team picked up multiple academic honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) last week, as Alex Bush, Princess Gbadamosi, Lauren Golick, and Alex Power were all named ITA Scholar-Athletes. For the first time since the 2011 season, the team as a whole also earned ITA All-Academic status.

As a team, the Vikings posted a grade point average of 3.574 for the 2013-14 academic year, earning ITA All-Academic Team honors for the eighth time under head coach Brian Etzkin. All eight women's tennis student-athletes had at least a 3.20 grade point average for the year, and tied a program-best with four ITA Scholar-Athlete honorees.

Bush, who recently finished her collegiate career ranked eighth on CSU's all-time singles wins list with 59 victories, earned ITA Scholar-Athlete honors for the first time after posting a 3.518 grade point average during the 2013-14 academic year. She is currently completing her health sciences and psychology degree and is scheduled to graduate this August.

Gbadamosi, who is studying chemical engineering, earned her first ITA Scholar-Athlete award after posting a 3.645 grade point average during her freshman campaign. Throughout the 2013-14 season, she played at every spot in the singles lineup for the Vikings, posting a team-best 18 singles wins.

Golick, the 2014 Horizon League Player and Newcomer of the Year, earned ITA Scholar-Athlete honors after posting a perfect 4.00 grade point average. Studying accounting, Golick is one of just seven Cleveland State student-athletes who earned a 4.00 GPA last year. Golick spent the majority of last season playing at No. 1 singles for the Vikings, owning a 13-7 record.

Power became just the fifth Viking under Etzkin to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete honors all four years of her collegiate career, posting a 3.824 grade point average during her senior season. She recently graduated with a degree in biology/pre-med and will be continuing her education at Cleveland State in the NEOMED program. Power finished her career ranked 10th on the all-time singles wins list at CSU, owning 55 career singles victories.

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1) be a varsity letterwinner, 2) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).

In order to earn ITA All-Academic Team honors the entire team's cumulative grade point average must be 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All eligible student-athletes whose names appear on the NCAA eligibility form and have competed in one or more varsity matches must average into the GPA for the current academic year (fall 2013 and spring 2014).
