Cleveland State's Bailey, Valparaiso's Shrum Collect Golfer of the Week Honors

INDIANAPOLIS -- Cleveland State senior Andrew Bailey (Rocky River, Ohio) is the Horizon League men’s Golfer of the Week, while Valparaiso freshman Sydney Shrum (Cloverdale, Ind.) is the Horizon League women’s Golfer of the Week for the week of Oct. 2-8.

Bailey led Cleveland State to a seventh-place finish at the University of Cincinnati Bearcat Invitational. The right-handed golfer shot rounds of 72-68-73 (213, -3) at The Traditions G.C. to finish in fourth-place in a field of 80 golfers. This marks Bailey’s third top-five finish in four events this fall and the fourth Horizon League Golfer of the Week honor for his career.

Shrum posted Valparaiso’s best tournament score of the week and led the Crusaders to finish in a tie for eighth-place at the Butler Fall Invitational. The freshman shot rounds of 79-75 (154, +14) at Highland C.C. to finish tied for sixth-place in a field of 62 golfers. Shrum’s two-round total of 154 ties for the fifth-lowest 36-hole score in Valparaiso program history.

Cleveland State concludes the fall season at the UD Flyer Invitational on Oct. 14-15, while Valparaiso travels to Springfield, Mo. to take part in the MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial for a second consecutive season.

Top Male Golfers of the Week:
Brandon Pluchinsky, Youngstown State (So., North Lima, Ohio) -- Team’s top performer for the second consecutive week and has two top-13 finishes in the last two events. Shot rounds of 72-72-76 (220) at the UC Bearcat Invitational and finished 13th overall.
Brendan Leonard, Detroit (Sr., Cambridge, Ont.) -- Shot rounds of 73-73-75 (221) to finish T-18 overall at the UC Bearcat Invitational. He earned his third top 20 performance of the fall.
Evan Bowser, Oakland (So., Dearborn, Mich.) -- Shot rounds of 76-77-71 (224) to place T-32 overall for his fifth round of par or better of 12 rounds played this fall.

Top Female Golfers of the Week:
Emily Rohanna, Youngstown State (So., Waynesburg, Pa.) -- Shot rounds of 82-77 (159) for a fourth-place finish and was the secondstraight top-10 finish and best overall finish in her career.
Ryann Gilley, UIC (Jr., Flossmoor, Ill.) -- Shot rounds of 81-80 (161) to finish T-21 overall with the score of 80 being her second lowest round this fall.
Julia Montgomery, Oakland (Fr., Utica, Mich.) -- Shot rounds of 83-77 (+16) and finished T-22 overall at The Preview.
