INDIANAPOLIS - Cleveland State junior guard Norris Cole has been named the Horizon League Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 24.
A native of Dayton, Ohio, Cole averaged 22 points, 6.5 assists and three rebounds per game as the defending League-champion Vikings (9-12, 5-4 Horizon League) moved above .500 in League play for the first time this season with victories over Green Bay (64-50) and Milwaukee (73-72) last week.
In the win over Green Bay, Cole had game-highs of 22 points and eight assists as Cleveland State led wire-to-wire. He also scored 22 against Milwaukee, including the game-winning three-pointer with 6.4 seconds remaining. Cole had seven of CSU's last nine points to rally the Vikings from a 14-point second-half deficit. In the process, he became the 18th player in school history to reach 1,000 career points, finishing the night with 1,005.
A preseason All-Horizon League pick, Cole ranks second in the League with 16.5 points per game and fourth with 3.6 assists per contest. He is the only player among the top five in both categories.
Cleveland State will play host to Youngstown State (7-12, 2-8) Saturday on ESPNU. Tip-off is 4 p.m. ET.
