Q: How have your preseason workouts been so far? Which areas have you've been pleased with?
A: The training has been going very well. We are getting better each day, and becoming more organized and committed to our team philosophy with each session. We have been pleased with the character and intensity level of the players. All of the players we have come from winning traditions and they have all been training at a very high level.
Q: Forward Frank Patano led the Horizon League in points and goals last year. What are your expectations for Frank during his senior season in 2008?
A: He has had a great first week. The expectations are the same for every member of our team and that is to know and accept their role, work to accomplish that role within our team concept and strive for excellence daily. I know Frank as a senior captain will do everything he can to help us be successful.
Q: It appears you have another young team. How important will contributions be from the sophomore and junior classes?
A: This team doesn't seem young to us because compared to last season we are veterans. All of our younger players earned great experience last year and it will be an important part of our success for this season.
Q: Talk about your newcomers. Who has stood out to this point?
A: They have all done very well and several of them are pushing for the starting lineup.
Q: What kinds of goals have you set for this year's team (both on and off the field)?
A: Our goals are to win the league and get into the NCAA tournament.
Q: Preview your non-conference schedule. Have you added any new matches or tournaments?
A: We have Bradley and Depaul as new opponents who should be good regional matches and we will be attending the Louisville tournament as well.
Q: Seven of your team's final 10 matches are at home. What kind of advantage will that provide heading into the league tournament?
A: Playing at home is always a bonus, but regardless of venue, we have to play well and get results. We would rather play at home than away but we will focus on our performance.
Q: You played professional soccer for six seasons. What was that experience like?
A: I would still be playing today if I could. It was a great opportunity and gave me some valuable experience that I use today as a coach.
