Saturday, March 5 - Semifinals

No. 3 Detroit 61, No. 2 UW-Green Bay 55 - Final

Milwaukee, Wis. - Brandon Cotton scored 26 points and the University of Detroit Mercy outscored the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay 37-24 in the second half to claim a 61-55 win Saturday in the first semifinal of the American Family Insurance Horizon League Men's Basketball Championship.

The Titans (14-15) advance to Tuesday's title game against either UW-Milwaukee or Loyola.

Brandon Morris led the Phoenix (17-11) with 17 points while Josh Lawrence added 13.

Detroit's offense and defense both improved in the second 20 minutes, allowing the Titans to overcome a seven-point halftime deficit. Detroit shot 50 percent from the field after shooting just 36.4 percent in the first half, while UW-Green Bay shot 46.2 percent in the first half but just 29.2 percent in the second half.

The Titans took the lead for good on a Cotton lay-in with 5:19 remaining and led 53-47 with 56 seconds remaining. The Phoenix pulled within two twice after that, the final time at 57-55 with nine seconds remaining on a Morris three-point shot. But Ethan Shaw hit two key free throws a second later and the
Titans hung on for the win.
