Male Athlete of the Week

 

Malachi Cate

UW-Milwaukee

Fr., Iola, Wis.

 

Cate won the Valparaiso Crusader Open to help the Panthers to a second-place team finish. UWM finished behind only Notre Dame, while Cate ran a time of 19:24, edging Kevin McFadden of Notre Dame by three seconds for top honors. It was also his first collegiate race.

 

Female Athlete of the Week

 

Ashley Raymond

Loyola

So., Wheaton, Ill.

 

Raymond conquered the 3K course in 10:50.27 to finish 15th overall and lead Loyola for the second consecutive meet this season. Raymond shaved 32 seconds off her time from the meet a year ago, when she finished 26th.

 

Other Men's Top Performers for the Week

 

Sam Romanoski

Loyola

Sr., Lake Zurich, Ill.

Romanoski was Loyola's top runner for the second time in as many meets this fall. Romanoski placed eighth overall with a time of 19:00.92 in the 6K race at the Hawkeye Open.

 

Justin Dickman

Youngstown State

Fr., Van Wert, Ohio

Dickman was YSU's top finisher in his first collegiate meet Saturday, placing eighth with a four-mile time of 21:57 at the Tommy Evans Invitational.

 

Dan Zinser

Detroit

Sr., Roseville, Mich.

Zinser was the top Titan runner in a race for the first time in his career. Finished 22nd in the Running Fit-Detroit Titan Invitational with a time of 21:57.

 

Kent Wories

Butler

Jr., Edwardsville, Ind.

Wories paced the Bulldogs at the 8K Indiana Open with a seventh place finish in 26:22.  He finished 21 seconds behind individual champ Justin Roeder, who was running unattached.  The other five runners who finished ahead of him all were from Big Ten schools.

 

Nathanael Brown

UW-Green Bay

Sr., Montello, Wis.

Brown earned his second top-10 finish of the season in as many meets, finishing as the third-best scoring collegiate runner at the Crusader Invitational. His time of 19:28 placed him just four seconds behind the top collegiate finisher.

 

Other Women's Top Performers for the Week

 

Holly Nearman

UW-Milwaukee

So., Monroe, Wis.

Nearman led the Panthers over the weekend, taking 13th place at the Valparaiso Crusader Open. She crossed the line in 15:17, while UWM finished fifth out of seven teams.

 

Jennifer DeFauw

Detroit

So., Harper Woods, Mich.

In her second-ever cross country race, DeFauw set a new personal record of 20:29. It was an improvement of 34 seconds over her race time last week over a course of the same distance. She also had her first top ten finish, finishing ninth.

 

Caitlan Ebner

Cleveland State

Fr., North Royalton, Ohio

Ebner posted a team-best time of 20:32 at the Tom Evans Invitational on Saturday in Akron, Ohio. Ebner's time was good for 12th place overall in the race. She has now led the Vikings in both meets this season.

 

Lisa Lee

Youngstown State

Fr., Norwalk, Ohio

Lee was YSU's top runner Saturday at the Tommy Evans Invitational with a 22nd-place time of 21:31 in the 5K.
