CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland State junior Nedim Nisic (Tuzla, Bosnia) has earned a spot on the Bosnian Olympic Team and will represent his country at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China.
Nisic is scheduled to compete in the 100-meter butterfly on Thursday, Aug. 15 at the National Aquatics Center.
"Nedim is the first active Viking swimmer in the history of the program to qualify for the Olympics," Director of Competitive Aquatics Wally Morton said. "We are excited for him to represent not only his nation, but the Viking family at the highest level of competition in the sport of swimming. We are all excited to watch him compete on an international stage."
This past winter, Nisic placed third in the 100 butterfly at the Horizon League Championship, posting a season-best time of 49.26. As a sophomore, he was the league runner-up in the event with a time of 49.64.
His efforts have helped the Vikings finish in second place at the league championship in each of the last two seasons.
