INDIANAPOLIS - Cleveland State University junior midfielder Mitch Boyer has been named Horizon League Men's Soccer Player of the Week for the period of Sept. 29-Oct. 5. It marks the first time in his career Boyer has captured the award.

Boyer, a Parma, Ohio, native, led host Cleveland State to a pair of Horizon League wins over the weekend. The junior opened the weekend with a successful penalty kick in the 19th minute of CSU's 2-1 overtime win over the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Friday night. Boyer then scored on another PK in the 80th minute to tie the Vikings' contest with the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee 1-1. CSU went on to win in the 95th minute on a goal by junior Slava Ubiparipovic.

After converting the two PKs, Boyer is 3-for-3 on penalty kicks this season.

For the week, Boyer had four points on two goals while recording four shots. Boyer leads CSU in goals (4) and points (8) this season.

Boyer and Cleveland State (3-6-2, 2-2-0 HL) continue their homestand this week with a pair of home contests. The Vikings host IPFW Wednesday and Valparaiso University Saturday. Both contests are scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
