Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week Kara Koch of Cleveland State received another honor after her record-setting play last weekend as she was announced as the Collegiate Volleyball Update’s (CVU.com) National Player of the Week for Oct. 31 – Nov. 6.

The Viking junior had a school-record 35 kills in Cleveland State’s come-from-behind 3-2 victory over UIC last Friday. She also added 13 digs, recording her ninth double-double of the season, and three blocks in CSU’s win. The school record had stood since 1996 when Tenille Whiteside had 33.

Koch had another double-double the next day, notching 22 kills and 14 digs, as Cleveland State defeated Valparaiso 3-1 to clinch the No. 2 seed, and bye into the semifinals, in the Horizon League tournament.

She also reached a personal milestone in Saturday’s match as she became the 14th Viking in school history to reach the 1,000-kill mark.

The junior is the first CSU player to earn the CVU.com honor and fifth overall from the Horizon League.
