INDIANAPOLIS -- Helping Cleveland State move into first place in the Horizon League, junior goalkeeper Brad Stuver (Twinsburg, Ohio) has been named Horizon League Men’s Soccer Player of the Week, for the week of Oct. 10-16.  The award is the first of the year for Stuver and fourth of his career.

Cleveland State (6-6-1, 3-1-1 Horizon) won its third straight League match and fourth overall, knocking off UIC (7-3-3, 1-1-1 Horizon), 2-1, at Flames Field. The victory lifted the Vikings to the top of the League ladder with 10 points.

Stuver recorded 11 saves in the win, including eight in a first-half onslaught from the Flames. The 11 stops were a new career high for the junior, who collected three player of the week awards in 2010.

In Cleveland State’s four-match winning streak, Stuver has allowed three goals, and just one in his last three matches. Stuver’s 54 saves rank second in the Horizon League, as do his four shutouts.

Cleveland State returns to Krenzler Field for two matches this week. The Vikings will welcome IUPUI on Wednesday, Oct. 19, for a midweek non-conference match beginning at 4 p.m. ET. On Saturday, Oct. 22, Cleveland State resumes League play when Green Bay (6-5-1, 2-2-0 Horizon) visits Krenzler for a 7 p.m. ET match. The Horizon League Network will carry both matches live and free of charge.

Top Performers for the Week:
  • Tony Walls, Green Bay (Sr., M) - Walls lifted Green Bay past Butler, 1-0, alertly converting a rebound off a saved penalty kick. The senior put four of his match-high five shots on net.
  • Brian Bement, Loyola (Fr., F) - The freshman continued to be Loyola’s leading scorer, converting in double overtime to send the Ramblers past visiting Detroit, 1-0, on Saturday. Bemen’s four goals pace the Ramblers.
  • Cody Banks, Milwaukee (Jr., M/F) - With two assists in a 2-2- draw with Wright State, Banks became just the second Panther this season with a two-assist effort.
  • Kyle Zobeck, Valparaiso (Jr., GK) - With three saves on Sunday, Zobeck was perfect in net as Valparaiso tied with regionally ranked Ohio State, 0-0. Zobeck’s six shutouts this season are one shy of the program record.
  • Bryce Rockwell-Ashton, Wright State (So., F) - The sophomore played a role in both of Wright State’s goals in a 2-2 draw at Milwaukee, giving the Raiders and early lead before assisting on the equalizing goal in the 71st minute.
