Day One Results

The 2012 Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championships got off to a roaring start Wednesday evening in front of a near-capacity crowd inside the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center. After one day of competition, Milwaukee holds a slim lead over Cleveland State on both the  women’s (109-102) and men’s (152-149) side.

The Vikings got off to a quick start sweeping the 200-free relay races to open the meet. In the first event of the evening, Cleveland State’s women’s 200-free relay squad set a Championship and All-Time League record 1:31.18. The men won the 200-free relay race in 1:20.53

Milwaukee’s women’s 200-medley relay squad also set a Championship and All-Time League record with a 1:40.64 winning time. Cleveland State captured the 200-medley relay in 1:30.18.

Overall on day one, Cleveland State captured three of the four relay races.

Kendra Rottier of Green Bay was the first individual winner of the 2012 Championships, capturing the 1000-free in 10:03.79. Wright State’s Pawel Grzebala was the first men’s individual winner of the Championships, winning the men’s 100-free in 9:17.97.

Cleveland State’s Josh Gonzalez won the men’s 3-meter diving event with a score of 353.75, edging Green Bay’s Daniel Pogue who finished second with a  score of 352.20.

Thursday’s schedule begins at 10:30 a.m. with the prelims in the men’s and women’s 500-free, men’s and women’s 200-IM and men’s and women’s 50-free. The 1-meter women’s diving event begins at 1:30 p.m. The finals for all of Thursday’s events begin at 6:30 p.m.
