De Waal and Nettleton earn Men's Swimming and Diving awards

INDIANAPOLIS - Cleveland State freshman Pierre De Waal has been named the Horizon League Men’s Swimmer of the Week, while Wright State junior Caleb Nettleton has claimed Diver of the Week laurels for the period of Jan. 4-Jan. 10.

De Waal came home with an event win at the San Juan Sprint Invitational against Syracuse on Saturday.  The Cape Town, South Africa, native, posted a first-place time of 31.19 in the 50-meter backstroke, a third-place time of 27.92 in the 50 butterfly and touched the wall fourth in the 50 freestyle with a final mark of 39.41.  The Vikings claimed victory over the Orangemen, 24-12.

Nettleton posted a third-place finish off the one-meter board and fourth-place showing from the three-meter height in a dual meet at Ohio State on Saturday.  The North Canton, Ohio, native, totaled scores of 291.45 and 246.60 from the one- and three-meter boards, respectively.

Both honors are career firsts for De Waal and Nettleton.
