Detroit 62, Youngstown State 47

DETROIT (AP) -- Brandon Cotton scored 19 and Torvoris Baker had 12 points and 11 rebounds to lead Detroit past Youngstown State 62-47 Saturday.

Quin Humphrey added 10 points in the win that clinched the third seed and a first-round bye in the Horizon League tournament for the Titans (12-5, 9-7).

Brian Radakovich had 12 points for the Penguins (5-22, 2-14), who have lost six of their last seven games. Youngstown State, the nine-team tournament's bottom seed, visits Loyola on Tuesday for a first-round game.

Detroit will meet the tournament's sixth or seventh seed in a second-round game Friday in Milwaukee.

The Titans outscored the Penguins 17-2 during an eight-minute stretch of the first half to take control of the game. Cotton scored 15 points in the half, including the Titans' last nine.

Detroit outrebounded Youngstown State 24-10 in the opening half and scored 18 of their 32 points in the paint. Detroit finished the game with a 43-24 advantage on the boards.

The Penguins, who scored just 16 points in the first half, trailed by as many as 30 points in the second.

Butler 86, UIC 82

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Brandon Polk scored 27 points, including 7-of-8 free throws, and Brandon Crone added 20 as Butler held off UIC in an 86-82 victory Saturday.

The Bulldogs (13-14, 7-9 Horizon League) led throughout and enjoyed a double-digit edge through most of the first half that grew to 18 points midway through the half.

But after trailing 42-32 at the half, the Flames (14-13, 8-8) rallied, cutting Butler's lead to under 10 points before the Bulldogs struggled to fight their way back, with Crone's field goal at 3:57 making it 74-64 Butler.

The rest of the way, however, the Flames, who were led by Cedrick Banks' game-high 28 points, outscored the Bulldogs 18-12, but it wasn't enough.

Justin Bowen made a layup with 7 seconds remaining to pull UIC within two points, 84-82. But A.J. Graves, who added 16 points for Butler, made both of his free throws after being fouled to seal the Bulldogs' win.

Jovan Stefanov had 12 points for the Flames, while Armond Williams and Karl White added 10 each.

UW-Milwaukee 81, Cleveland State 59

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Ed McCants scored 21 points and UW-Milwaukee held Cleveland State to 30 percent shooting from the field in an 81-59 victory on Saturday night.

Joah Tucker added 16 points and Adrian Tigert 10 for the Panthers (22-5, 14-2 Horizon League).

Raheem Moss led Cleveland State (9-16, 6-10) with 27 points. The Vikings were playing their first game since leading scorer (17.1 points per game) and rebounder (8.3) Omari Westley was dismissed from the team for missing two practices and a game earlier in the week.

The Panthers scored the first four points and built a 45-33 halftime lead. Their lead never fell below 17 points in the final 17 minutes. Cleveland State hit just 6-of-31 shots from the field in the second half (19 percent).
