The University of Detroit Mercy men's golfers remained in 25th place at the NCAA West Regional on Friday as they matched their opening-day score of 297.
Like Thursday, the Titans started quickly and played their first six holes in three under par as a team. However, they were not able to maintain that momentum in order to climb up the standings. They are now nine shots behind 50th-ranked San Diego State University, which stands 24th, and they're three ahead of Northeast Conference champion Monmouth University, the 26th-place team after 36 holes.
UDM freshman David Byrne - who was the Horizon League individual medalist in leading Detroit to the 2007 conference championship - paced the Titans Friday with a two-under-par round of 70 on Arizona State University's 7,057-yard Karsten Golf Course. Byrne has a two-day total of one-over 145.
Detroit will begin final-round play on Saturday at 3:29 p.m. EDT. Golfstat will provide live scoring of the West Regional's third round.
