The University of Detroit mercy men's golf team stands 25th after Thursday's first round of play at the NCAA West Regional.

The Titans started out their Thursday round as hot as the temperatures which topped 100 degrees at Arizona State University's Karsten Golf Course. Detroit was five-under par as a team after six holes, but couldn't maintain that pace and finished its round at nine-over 297. That puts UDM one shot behind 50th-ranked San Diego State University, and five back of the University of Oregon heading into Friday's second round.

Senior Kyler Murphy and junior Mark Sommerfeld topped the Titans individually with rounds of 73 apiece.

Detroit will begin second round play on Friday at 3:29 p.m. (EDT). Golfstat will provide live scoring of the West Regional's second round.
