DETROIT | Rosanna Reynolds scored 19 points and No. 3 Detroit Mercy used a 12-1 run to pull away from No. 2 Wright State at the beginning of the fourth quarter in a 71-52 win in the 2017 Horizon League Women’s Basketball Championship semifinals on Monday afternoon.
Nicole Urbanick knocked down a 3-pointer to open the fourth quarter and Brittney Jackson added five points during the run as the Titans turned a 47-42 lead into a 16-point advantage with 6:04 remaining. Reynolds pushed the lead up to 18 points with back-to-back baskets later in the quarter and the Raiders never got closer than 15 points the rest of the way.
The Titans (18-13) will take on No. 1 Green Bay in the Horizon League title game on Tuesday afternoon. The two teams split a pair of regular-season games this year with the home team winning each contest. Neither game was decided by more than five points.
Lexi Smith had 18 points and 14 rebounds for the Raiders (24-8), but the co-Horizon League regular-season champions could never get into an offensive flow, shooting just 25 percent (16-64) from the field and 8.3 percent (1-12) from the 3-point line. The Raiders struggled to score despite attempting 29 free throws compared to just three for Detroit Mercy.
Brianne Cohen had 11 points and five assists for the Titans while Anja Marinkovic added 11 points off the bench. Emily Vogelpohl had 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Raiders and All-Horizon League performer Chelsea Welch had 15 points.
