Women’s Soccer Results (Sept. 30)
Detroit 1, Loyola 0
Indiana State 3, Green Bay 0
INDIANAPOLIS – A late goal pushed Detroit past Loyola in the only Horizon League women’s soccer match of the day; in non-conference action, Green Bay returned home but fell to Indiana State.
Detroit 1, Loyola 0
Nina Carter sent Detroit to a key Horizon League victory, as her 85th minute goal gave the Titans a 1-0 win over visiting Loyola.
Detroit (5-5-1, 2-1-0 Horizon) bounced back after a home loss to Milwaukee earlier in the week, snapping Loyola’s (6-5-1, 1-1-0 Horizon) six-match unbeaten streak.
The match played to form, with the Titans’ aggressive offense testing Loyola’s defensive mettle, but the Ramblers refused to buckle under a 10-shot attack from Detroit. Monica Gonyo turned in four saves to aid the Loyola effort.
However, Detroit finally struck in the 85th minute after earning a corner kick. Sarah Dzuris sent the corner into the box, where Carter’s low shot beat Gonyo and gave the Titans the victory in the matchup of Jesuit rivals.
Indiana State 3, Green Bay 0
Green Bay fell behind early and could never catch up, dropping a 3-0 decision to Indiana State at Aldo Santaga Stadium.
Green Bay (3-7-1) had 11 shots, four on goal, but could not beat Indiana State’s keeper.
Aubrie Musselman scored the eventual game-winner just 11 minutes into the contest, and the match stayed at 1-0 until the 48th minute, when the Sycamores tacked on a second. Taylor Reed’s 78th minute tally closed the scoring.
