Detroit 81, Alabama State 68

After shooting just 28.2 percent from the field in the first half, Detroit rebounded to hit 15-of-26 attempts in the final 20 minutes, building an 18-point lead en route to an 81-68 win over visiting Alabama State at Calihan Hall.

Detroit (5-4) won its 13th straight game at Calihan Hall, improving to 5-0 at home this season. Nick Minnerath led the Titans with 22 points, knocking down 4-of-5 three-point attempts.

Jumping out to an 8-0 lead, Detroit went cold the rest of the half, finishing 11-of-39 from the floor. Still, the Titans led, 39-36, at the half.

Detroit jumped out to a nine-point edge early in the second half before Alabama State closed the deficit to 52-50 with 13:17 to play.

However, Detroit clamped down defensively, holding the Hornets without a field goal for 3:38, by which time the Titans had built a 63-50 lead. The Titans had four steals in the stretch, fueling the 11-0 burst.

Minnerath scored nine straight points down the stretch to seal the game, knocking down a three from the left corner to give Detroit its largest lead of the night, 77-59, with 3:30 remaining. A transition layup from Minnerath capped his personal run.

Juwan Howard, Jr., named the Horizon League Newcomer of the Week earlier in the day, went 4-for-5 from three-point range, finishing with 16 points. Despite shooting 5-of-15 from the floor, Ray McCallum had 15 points, adding eight assists. Jason Calliste made it a quartet in double figures with 11 points.
