DETROIT - The University of Detroit Mercy's 2003-04 softball team posted the fourth highest grade-point average in Division I collegiate softball, and was recognized by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, the organization announced Oct. 4. Detroit's overall GPA was 3.466.
Eleven of the eligible 13 softball student-athletes were selected to the Horizon League Honor Roll, with 14 of the 16 team members being named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll at Detroit. The Titans were one of two Horizon League member schools to rank in the top 80 teams, four spots higher than Cleveland State.
Detroit's softball team, which tied for the highest team GPA last year at UDM, returns eight starters from last season's squad and kicks off the 2005 season at the Rebel Games in Orlando, FL, in March.
