The Detroit softball team was honored by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association today when the association announced its Academic Scholar Athlete Teams. The Titans had the fourth highest grade point average among Division I universities with a 3.481. The selection also marks the sixth straight year Detroit has been in the top five among DI schools.

"UDM prides itself on the academic excellence exhibited by its student-athletes," added Director of Athletics Brad Kinsman. "We congratulate our Titan softball team on this terrific accomplishment and for the honor they have brought to the University."

16 of the Titans were selected to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll with another 10 being selected to the Horizon League Honor Roll. 2006 Horizon League Player of the Year Kaleigh Rafter (Guelph, ON/St. James) along with Sarah Dickey (Brampton, ON/Turner-Fenton) and Katrina Klemp were selected to both the Academic All-League and All-League First Teams.

"This is the truest statement that we really do have 'student-athletes' here in our program," said head coach Bob Wilkerson. "To see that we are not only successful on the field but in the classroom is truly gratifying. This award would not be possible with out the great assistance of our academic staff as well as the great group of professors and instructors here at Detroit."
