Detroit, Mich. - The 2004 Horizon League Champion Women's Soccer team was presented with their last piece of hardware today (April 26), their championship rings. The rings were presented by UDM President Fr. Gerard Stockhausen, Vice President Michael Joseph, Athletic Director Brad Kinsman and Assistant AD and Senior Women's Administrator Keri Gaither in a reception held in the Titan Club inside Calihan Hall.
Following a welcome by Gaither, Fr. Stockhausen congratulated the team on their achievements and blessed the rings before formally presenting them to each team member and coach.
"This is a great honor for any student-athlete to receive," said Gaither. "The team represented the school, the program and themselves so well this year that to see them receive something they worked so hard for is nice. The rings are just a small token of their accomplishments but it is something they can hold onto for a long time as a reminder of what they did."
The rings were designed and manufactured by Jostens. The top of the ring is inscribed with "Horizon League Champions" with one side displaying the student-athlete's name above a soccer ball and their uniform number. The other side acknowledges the Titans NCAA Tournament run along with the Titan head logo and the year of the championship, 2004.
Detroit finished the season with a 14-8-1 overall record, winning the 2004 Horizon League Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament Second Round.
