Detroit's Hicks and Hansen pick up Horizon League Golfer of the Week honors

INDIANAPOLIS – Detroit junior Mark Hicks has been named Horizon League Men’s Golfer of the Week, while Titan sophomore Collette Hansen earns Women’s Golfer of the Week accolades for the period of April 13-19.

Hicks took medalist honors at the Titan Invitational, finishing first out of 50 individuals and helping Detroit to a first place finish.

Hicks, a native of Niagara-On-The-Lakes, Ontario, won his first career tournament, shooting a 220 with an eagle and six birdies.   

He was one of only three golfers to shoot a round under par with a one-under 71 in the second round.

Hansen earned her first honor of the season after shooting an 81 and tying for eighth out of 76 competitors at the Falcon Invite.  The Titans finished fifth out of 13 teams.

Hansen, a native of West Olive, Mich., earned her second top 10 finish of the year and third of her career as she led the Titans in the weather-shortened event.

Hicks and Hansen will become eligible for next week’s Horizon League Network's "People's Choice" award, which is announced each Thursday afternoon.  Log on to www.HorizonLeague.com to vote.

The Detroit men and women will return to the links as the top seeds of the 2011 Horizon League Golf Championships which will take place on April 22-24 at Mission Inn Resort in Howie-in-the-Hills, Fla.  Both teams took the title in 2010.
