INDIANAPOLIS—The Horizon League announced Monday it has nominated women’s golfer Lindsey Lammers (Milan, Mich. / Milan) of Detroit for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award.

One of the most prestigious NCAA awards, The NCAA established the Woman of the Year Award in 1991 to celebrate the achievements of women in intercollegiate athletics. The unique award, now in it its 23rd year, recognizes academic achievements, athletics achievements, community service and leadership. To be eligible, these women must have been nominated by their athletic department, competed and earned a varsity letter in an NCAA-sponsored sport and must have exhausted eligibility in their primary sport.

A Business Administration graduate who maintained a 3.87 grade-point average, Lammers was named to the Detroit Mercy Director’s Honor Roll four times. She was selected to the Women’s National Golf Association All-American Scholar Team in 2011 and to the Women’s Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Team in 2013. Lammers is a six-time Horizon League Fall and Spring Academic Honor Roll honoree.

In the community, Lammers organized “Sandwich Bus,” which distributes bagged lunches to the less fortunate. She also helped plant and maintain a local urban farm, served as a mentor to middle school students, and organized a station during the Girls and Women in Sports Day. Lammers was a member of the Detroit Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and served as an ambassador for the Detroit Mercy School of Business.

On the course, the right-handed golfer was a two-time Horizon League Player of the Year. In 2013, she became the first female Titan golfer to win Player of the Year honors. At the Horizon League Golf Championships, she was a member of the All-Tournament team on three occasions and took home medalist honors in 2012 and 2014.  Detroit won the Horizon League Golf Championship in 2013 and defended their title in 2014.

Earlier this year, Lammers took home the President’s Award, the most distinguished award Detroit Athletics has to offer.
