INDIANAPOLIS -- Detroit sophomoreSenee Shearer is the Horizon League Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, for the period from Dec. 19-25, after scoring 47 points as the Titans defeated Eastern Michigan and Western Michigan.

Shearer started the week by tying her then career-high with 23 points as the Titans defeated Eastern Michigan, 70-69, in overtime. The sophomore guard was 7-of-15 from the field, knocking down four three-pointers, while also shooting 5-of-7 from the free throw line. She tied for team-high honors with three steals as Detroit overcame a halftime deficit to force overtime.

Two days later, Shearer scored 24 points, setting a career-high, as Detroit went on the road to defeat Western Michigan, 73-64. Shearer again made four three-pointers and was also a perfect 10-for-10 at the free throw line. She also had two steals, tying for the team-high.

Shearer has now scored 20+ points in three consecutive games.

Detroit begins Horizon League action this week as they host Butler on Thursday at 7 p.m. and Valparaiso on Saturday at noon.

Other Top Performers for the Week:

Julie Wojta, Green Bay (Sr., F) – Wojta scored a career-high 29 points as Green Bay went on the road and defeated Wisconsin, 65-49.  
Ashley Varner, Valparaiso (Sr., F) - Varner had 19 points and 12 rebounds, her third double-double of the season, as Valparaiso defeated Eastern Illinois, 53-50.
Jasmine Bailey, UIC (Sr., G/F) –Bailey had 23 points and 11 rebounds as UIC defeated Eastern Illinois, 66-50. Bailey has scored in double-digits in 14 consecutive games.
Destinee Blue, Cleveland State (Sr., C) – Blue averaged 16.0 points and 7.5 rebounds in CSU’s two games at the Magnolia Classic. She scored 19 points in the Vikings’ overtime win over Murray State. For the tournament, she shot 65 percent from the field.
Devin Brierly, Butler (Sr., G) – Brierly led the Bulldogs with 14 points in their win over IUPUI. The senior guard has averaged 14.3 points per game during Butler’s current three-game win streak.
