DETROIT (1/21/2014) – Senior Adam Bedell of the University of Detroit Mercy men’s soccer team was drafted Tuesday in the third round of the Major League Soccer SuperDraft. Bedell was taken by the Columbus Crew 45th overall and is the first Titan soccer player to be drafted in the MLS.

“I am unbelievably excited to be a member of the Columbus Crew,” said Bedell. “I have been waiting a long time for this moment and I’m ready to get to work and help the Crew win soccer games.”

Bedell was named to the All-Horizon League First Team for the second straight season in 2013. The 2012 campaign saw Bedell capture the Horizon League Player and Offensive Player of the Year honors while helping the Titans to the No. 1 overall seed in the Horizon League playoffs and the first Horizon League regular season championship since 2005 and third overall (1995). As a result, Detroit hosted the Horizon League Championship Semifinals and Finals at Titan Field.

“This is a proud day for Detroit Titans soccer to have a player drafted to the MLS. It’s a big step for our program and we’re looking forward to watching him play with the Columbus Crew,” said UDM Men’s Soccer Head Coach Nicholas Deren. “It could not happen to a more class-act person. He is always setting high standards for himself and his hard work and determination is what what led him to being drafted.”

In 2013, Bedell finished tied for third in the Horizon League in points (21), fourth in goals (8) while tying for sixth in assists (5), respectively.

Bedell finished his Titan career amongst the leaders in several major statistical categories that include sixth all time in career points (67), goals (23), and assists (22).
