This past weekend was full of excitement for us. If we won our match against Youngstown State and our match against Detroit, we would finish 2nd in the Horizon League standings and have a bye straight to the semifinals of the league tournament. Despite being full of adrenaline, we knew each match would be a very tough battle.
The first match of the weekend came on a rainy day at Youngstown State, so we had to deal with some pretty wet turf. The match seemed pretty even after the first half, with neither team being able to capitalize on their chances. It wasn't until the second half where we came out with a bit more fire and were able to put the ball into the back of the net. Both Lori Anderson and Megan Bush had great goals to lead us to victory. Following the win, we found out that Butler lost their match at Valparaiso, which allowed us to clinch second place a day earlier than we were hoping. WOOHOO! Later that night, the entire team went to see Paranormal Activiity. I don't think I have been able to sleep since!
On Saturday we had a tough battle against Detroit. It was their Senior Day and they came out with nothing to lose. The game was a big, physical battle and eventually ended up in overtime. With a little over three minutes left, Jazmine Galbreath sent a perfect cross to the feet of Bekah Bonny who sent the ball flying into the back of the net, securing our 1-0 victory. Bekah has been having an incredible season and has really shown how strong of a player she can be.
By winning both matches, our team now holds the school record for most league wins in a season. HOW EXCITING! We have another week until our semifinal match in the Horizon League Tournament, and we have worked too hard to let ANYTHING stand in our way.
