Epps Named CSU Assistant Women's Basketball Coach

Cleveland, Ohio - Oties Epps, a men's assistant at the University of Wisconsin-Stout for the past three seasons, has been named assistant women's basketball coach at Cleveland State. Head coach Kate Peterson made the announcement on Wednesday. A native of Highland Park, Mich., he will work with the guards and team ball-handling, assist with recruiting and be in charge of the Vikings' community service efforts.

"Oties brings energy, a contagious enthusiasm and a passion for the game of basketball to Cleveland State," Peterson noted. "One of his greatest strengths is his skill at player development in a one-on-one setting."

Epps was a small college first team All-American and a first team NAIA west region pick at (now defunct) Mount Scenario College in 1996-97 and was a three-time all conference pick. He went on to earn his bachelors degree in human development from UW-Stout in 2003 and is slated to receive his masters in education this December from UW-Stout.

While a student at UW-Stout, he served as an assistant coach on the men's basketball staff. His duties included working with the perimeter players, assisting with recruiting and coordinating opponent scouting reports.

Cleveland State posted a 12-16 overall record last year, finishing fourth in the Horizon League with a 9-7 mark. The Vikings, who return two starters and nine letterwinners, open the 2004-05 season at home against Virginia on Nov. 19. Call (216) 687-4848 for ticket information.
