2014 Horizon League Tennis Championship Brackets

INDIANAPOLIS- The 2014 Horizon League Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championship fields are set with Green Bay earning the No. 1 seed for the men and Cleveland State taking the top spot for the women.

The Phoenix (16-7, 6-0 Horizon) earn the regular-season title for the second-straight year after completing conference play with an undefeated record. The squad finished runner-up at last year’s championship after collecting the university’s first Horizon League tournament title in 2012.

The Vikings (11-11, 7-1 Horizon) are regular-season co-champions with Milwaukee (13-8, 7-1 Horizon) as both teams finished with identical conference records. Cleveland State defeated the Panthers in a close 4-3 match earlier in the year thus clinching the No. 1 seed. This is the first regular-season title for each school in program history.

Cleveland State (14-7, 5-1 Horizon) finished off strong in League play to take the No. 2 seed in the men’s standings. The Vikings defeated Green Bay in the championship match just a year ago to claim their fifth Horizon League title for the program.

In the first round of men’s tennis championship play, No. 3 seed Wright State (10-13, 4-2 Horizon) faces off against No. 6 seed Youngstown State (5-16, 1-5 Horizon). The Raiders defeated the Penguins in late March 5-2.

On the other side of the bracket, No. 4 seed Valparaiso (18-8, 3-3 Horizon) faces No. 5 seed UIC (5-10, 2-4 Horizon) with the Crusaders taking the regular-season matchup in a 7-0 victory.

In a close race in the women’s standings, last year’s runner-up Youngstown State (11-11, 6-2 Horizon) earned the No. 3 seed and will play against No. 6 seed Wright State (9-16, 3-5 Horizon) in the first round. The Penguins defeated the Raiders 6-1 on March 22.

UIC (8-12, 5-3 Horizon) collects the No. 4 seed over No. 5 seed Detroit (10-7, 5-3 Horizon) after defeating the Titans in a close match 4-3 a week ago. The two squads will meet in the first round for a rematch as the Flames fight for their 18th-consecutive Horizon League Championship.

The Horizon League Tennis Championships will take place in Ann Arbor, Mich. at the University of Michigan Varsity Tennis Center. The Championships begin Friday, April 25 and run through Sunday, April 27 with the women’s title match beginning at 11:00 a.m. ET followed by the men’s championship match at 3:00 p.m. ET. The entire championship will be streamed on the Horizon League Network.
