Field Set for 2012 Women's Basketball Championship

The final four seeds weren’t set until Saturday afternoon, but the field is now set for the 2012 Horizon League Women’s Basketball Championship.

The tournament will begin on Monday, March 5 with two first round games. Seventh-seed Cleveland State (11-18, 6-12) will host tenth-seed Youngstown State (10-19, 4-14) in one game, while eighth-seed Milwaukee (9-20, 5-13) hosts ninth-seed Valparaiso (9-20, 5-13) in the other game.

The top six seeds in the tournament get a bye into the quarterfinals that begin on Wednesday, March 7.

Green Bay (27-1, 17-1), the top-seed in the tournament, will play its first game on March 7 against the winner of the Milwaukee and Valparaiso game. If the Phoenix win their quarterfinals matchup they will host the semifinals and finals in the Kress Center.

If the Phoenix fall to the Panthers or Crusaders, the highest remaining seed left in the tournament after the quarterfinals will be the host for the final two rounds.

Detroit (18-12, 14-4) is the second seed in the championship and they will play the winner of Cleveland State and Youngstown State on Wednesday. Detroit, the only team to beat Green Bay in the regular season, lost to YSU on the road in the regular season.

Wright State (19-11, 12-6) is the third seed and will host sixth-seeded Loyola (13-16, 8-10) in the third quarterfinal game on Wednesday. The Raiders and Ramblers split their two regular season meetings with Loyola winning on Wright State’s floor on Feb. 4, 74-66.

The final quarterfinal match is fourth-seeded UIC (17-12, 8-10) hosting fifth-seed Butler (13-16, 9-9). The two teams split their two regular season games with both teams winning on their home court.

The semifinals are scheduled for Friday, March 9 with game times of 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. ET.

The championship game is scheduled for Sunday, March 11 at 1 p.m. ET. The game will be televised on ESPNU.
