Field Set for 2013 Women's Basketball Tournament

The 2012-13 Horizon League Women’s Basketball season had a lot at stake on the final day of the regular season Saturday as seven of the nine seeds were still up for grabs when the day began.

The Green Bay Phoenix came out of the regular season as champions of the Horizon League for the 15^th consecutive season and will be the top-seed in the tournament. Green Bay, ranked 20^th in both major polls, went undefeated in the regular season for the fifth time in team history.

The tournament begins on Monday, March 11 with a first round game featuring ninth-seed UIC (9-20, 5-11) playing at eighth-seed Valparaiso (10-19, 5-11).

The top seven seeds in the tournament get a bye into the second round that begins on Wednesday, March 13.

Green Bay (26-2, 16-0) will play its first game on March 13 against the winner of the UIC and Valparaiso game. If the Phoenix win their second round matchup they will host the semifinals and finals in the Kress Center.

If the Phoenix fall to the Flames or Crusaders, the highest remaining seed left in the tournament after the second round will be the host for the final two rounds.

Youngstown State (21-8, 11-5) is the second seed in the championship and will open the tournament by hosting seventh-seed Cleveland State (13-16, 5-11) on Wednesday night. The Penguins won both of the regular season meetings between the two teams.

Loyola (15-14, 10-6) is the third seed and will host sixth-seeded Milwaukee (9-19, 5-11) in the third game on Wednesday. The Ramblers enter the tournament winners of eight of their last nine games and won both games versus the Panthers in the regular season.

The final second round match is fourth-seeded Detroit (16-12, 9-7) hosting fifth-seed Wright State (12-17, 6-10). The Titans won both meetings between the two teams during the season.

The semifinals are scheduled for Friday, March 15 with game times of 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. ET.

The championship game is scheduled for Sunday, March 17 at 1 p.m. ET. The game will be televised on ESPNU.
