Take the Bracket Challenge

INDIANAPOLIS -- For the first time in 18 years, Green Bay sits atop the Horizon League regular season standings. The Phoenix claimed the outright championship in the final week of the regular season and will be the No. 1 seed for the 2014 Horizon League Men’s Basketball Tournament. Green Bay will host the tournament as long as it remains alive.

Green Bay (24-5, 14-2 Horizon) clinched the No. 1 seed on Feb. 20, earning the outright championship a week later at Oakland. Only once has a Horizon League team finished the conference season with two or fewer losses and missed the NCAA Tournament.

The Phoenix earn a double bye into the semifinals, as will Cleveland State (21-10, 12-4 Horizon), which claimed the No. 2 seed on Tuesday night. The Vikings wrapped the regular season at Valparaiso, handing the Crusaders a 63-52 defeat. The Vikings are the No. 2 seed for the second time in three seasons.

Last year, Wright State (18-13, 10-6 Horizon) reached the Horizon League championship as the No. 3 seed and will try to repeat the process in 2014. With its 68-61 victory at UIC on Saturday, the Raiders secured the seed and a first round bye.

Picked sixth in the preseason poll, Valparaiso (17-14, 9-7 Horizon) captured fourth place and will host regional rival UIC (6-24, 1-15 Horizon) on Tuesday, March 4. The Crusaders swept the Flames in the regular season.

Winning its regular season finale at Detroit on Thursday lifted Milwaukee (17-13, 7-9 Horizon) to a fifth place finish, four spots better than the Panthers were predicted to do in the preseason. Tuesday’s first round home game will see Milwaukee welcome those same Titans (6-10. 13-18 Horizon) to U.S. Cellular Arena. The teams split their two meetings in conference play, each winning on the opposition’s home court.

The newest member of the Horizon League, Oakland (12-19, 7-9 Horizon) will host the final first round tournament game, playing No. 7 Youngstown State (15-16, 6-10 Horizon) at the O’rena on Tuesday. The Golden Grizzlies swept the regular season meetings by a combined seven points.

All three first round games will be carried live on the Horizon League Network.

Green Bay will host the second round and semifinals at the Resch Center, with the highest remaining seed hosting the championship game live on ESPN at 7 p.m. ET on Tuesday, March 11, as part of “Championship Week.” Friday night games will be carried on ESPN3 and ESPN Full Court, along with syndication throughout the Midwest, tipping at 7 and 9:30 p.m. EST. Saturday’s semifinals will be carried on ESPNU, with 9:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. EST air times.

Tickets for the second round and semifinals of the tournament are on sale now. All tickets can be purchased by calling the Resch Center box office at 1-800-895-0071.
